Nasi Lemak Belauk at Malam Indah Selalu at Senibong Seafood Village is probably the most famous nasi lemak in Johor Bahru.
Senibong Seafood Village |
The Senibong nasi lemak shop is in these blue and green stilt houses over the beach.
One of the attractions of Senibong nasi lemak, is to enjoy your meal in the al fresco area while taking in the view of the sea and the breezy sea breeze. This ambiance is especially popular at night - nasi lemak under the moon and stars, how nice....
Besides the basic combination of coconut rice, a papadum, a little vegetable, and an egg, we can add a variety of sides such as fried fish, beef rendang, sambal sotong, sambal chicken, chicken rendang, ayam masak merah or fried chicken.
My plate of nasi lemak with an egg, a little fried vegetable and a fried fish came to RM6.
I like the coconut rice here as it reminds me of the aroma of old style 古早味 nasi lemak. I like just a subtle yet distinctive hint of coconut. Some people prefer their nasi more lemak.
This is the sambal chili which some people raved about while others felt was too sweet. I found it slightly sourish, tangy, sweet and mildly spicy. The sambal has a nice anchovy flavour from the bits and pieces of anchovies in it. I personally like this sambal. I asked for more (tambah) sambal which the staff gladly obliged.
Happy children from Senibong Village buying their nasi lemak dinner.
Though I am not bowled over, Senibong nasi lemak has its loyal following. The gentleman from Singapore at the next table commented rather loudly to his family that he could not find such nasi lemak flavour and taste anywhere else, and then went on to mention some familiar shops.
