Famous Kulai Mok Gao 莫搞 Beef Noodles, Johor

Ask any Kulai resident about the famous no signboard beef noodle shop, and chances are they will point you to this one near Kulai Centre Point.

This shop may have no signboard but if you are not early enough, many of its items will be sold out. I was there are and they already ran out of kway teow! Anyway, this shop opens super early (before day break) at to cater to the factory workers in the area and also for workers who commute to Singapore.

This shop may have no signboard but locals know it as Mok Gao 莫搞 (many thanks to readers Audrey and Rebecca for the information).

RM5 got me this bowl of beef and pork bee hoon.

The star is of course this tender and naturally sweet beef. The soup is beefy, slightly herbal and noticeably salty.

While slurping up the beef noodles, it was quite fun to watch the frantic cooking area out at the front of the shop.

They even have an area at the back of the shop to cater just for take away customers. Some customers even bring their own thermos flask to take away hot and wholesome beef soup J

This place is not easy to find, so I’ve got additional details besides the usual address, map and GPS co-ordinates.

Coming from the Kulai exit (Exit 252) along the North-South Expressway (NSE), drive down Jalan Kulai (also known as Jalan Besar), and look out for Kulai Centre Point on your left. Prepare to turn right.

Once passed Kulai Centre Point, make a right turn at the first traffic light junction into Jalan Ismail. You will see small shops lining the street up ahead.

About 50 metres into Jalan Ismail, you will see this large Fujifilm advertisement painted on the wall. Turn left, into the side lane.

The famous Kulai no signboard beef noodle shop is on your left, 20 metres inside. Walk down a short flight of steps to the shop.

Wish you happy food hunting and eating J  I will be coming back for the dry version (with gravy) and the kway teow J
