联姐 Yong Tau Foo 酿豆腐 Stall @ Kim Ling 金岭 Kopitiam in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru

联姐 who runs the popular kia teow kia stall at Kim Ling kopitiam in Taman Perling, also runs the yong tau foo 酿豆腐 stall.

联姐's Hakka styled yong tau foo stall serves an extensive range of yong tau foo and fried tofu. Everything at 联姐 is home-made.

The generous fresh fish stuffing in 联姐's yong tau foo pieces were light and sweet. Let's take a look at what's available.

Customers can pick any combination of these yong tau foo pieces and have them served in a savoury blended sauce of sweet, spicy and salty flavours, or in a tasty soup.

This time, I opted for the soup. The popular deep fried tofu skin were still crunchy even after soaking up loads of tasty broth.

The slightly cloudy soup base was made with soy beans, stock bones and anchovies.

I had "mouse" noodles 老鼠粉 for a change.

Kim Ling kopitiam is a convenient spot for group meals as it offers a wide variety of good hawker fare - there is something for everyone. Ample seating, indoors, al fresco and there is also an air conditioned section. 联姐's Yong Tau Foo stall adds to Kim Ling's already wide range of food choices available.

德记 Chicken Rice @ Kim Ling 金岭 Coffee Shop in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru

德记 is the popular chicken rice stall at Kim Ling 金岭 Coffee Shop in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru.

I stumbled upon 德记 by chance. While walking pass Kim Ling 金岭 one morning, this row of bulbous, plump, nude chickens strung up to air dry, caught my eye.

So, this is how fried chickens which are crispy outside, and tender and juicy inside are made, I thought to myself.

The chickens were deep fried right there at the front of the chicken rice stall. I love watching food being prepared.

Ain't these freshly fried golden brown chickens, simply irresistible?

The chicken rice too is freshly cooked. Rice with pandan leaves, lemon grass and ginger slices readied for the pot.

The bushel of fresh pandan leaves used in cooking the chicken rice is delivered fresh everyday by the happy couple behind, in the motorbike.

德记 chicken rice is good though I was not overwhelmed by this very photogenic RM4 chicken rice in the departments of taste, aroma or texture - but, don't take my word for it. This was white, breast meat and I am partial to juicier thigh meat. I was also eating on a full stomach and my taste buds were all messed up that day with too much pork offal, banana cake and kopi o kaw, in double quick succession.

There has got to be something special here that queues of people were willingly waiting for. The stall owner couple was working at a frantic pace. The young lady owner was darting and dashing swiftly between the tables and the stall. I didn't remember the "tuk, tuk, tuk" sound of the chopper blade stopping at anytime that I was at 德记. The row of freshly fried chickens flew off the rack in mere minutes. Some of the customers were taking away chicken rice in Styrofoam boxes stacked high like a small mountain.

My recommendation - choice in food is very democratic. 德记 chicken rice has plenty of votes, so give 德记 chicken rice a try. You might become a fan too.

聯姐 Kway Teow Kia @ Kim Ling 金岭 Coffee Shop in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Recently, I had been featuring Kim Ling 金岭 coffee shop because I like the variety and quality of the many hawker stalls there. Readers suggested that I also try 聯姐 kway teow kia stall at Kim Ling 金岭.

I am glad that I made a trip to Kim Ling this morning on my readers' suggestion. 聯姐 kway teow kia is very good, indeed.

There are many things that I like about 聯姐 kway teow kia stall.

First of all, I like the the ordering system here - it is simple and transparent. The different cuts of pork offal, meat and types of additional ingredients like braised eggs and fried tofu skin are all displayed at the front. The customer just picks the pieces that s/he likes and knows exactly how much s/he has to pay. Great system!

The fried tofu skin is very popular as it soaks up the braising sauce like a sponge. This is delicious as it stays crunchy even when saturated with braising sauce.

聯姐's braised eggs are hot sellers.

Intestines are staples at kway teow kia stalls. At 聯姐, the delicious intestines are thoroughly cleaned.

Pork tongue, my favourite. 聯姐's sweet pork tongue has a certain crunchiness that made it the best that I've tasted.

Soft, tender and tasty braised pig's skin.

Crunchy braised pork ears.

Beautiful belly pork, braised to perfection.

Braised tofu, the favourite of many.

To me, the soul of kia teow kia is its braising sauce. I love 聯姐's braising sauce. The braising sauce has body yet light. It is delicately herbal, hints only of slight saltiness and is naturally sweet. This is definitely one my favourites.

All the customers' orders get a hot dip in the boiling braising sauce before serving.

Soft and smooth kway teow kia in a delicate herbal broth that is tasty, not too salty nor oily. For many people, one bowl is not enough.

Here comes our orders.

Other "normal" people's orders.

I was a little greedy, threw caution to the wind, and just gleefully picked a mix of things I liked. Hahaha..., the food arrived in a heap which I had to finish by myself. Fortunately, that wasn't too hard as everything was delicious J.

聯姐 is highly recommended for kway teow kia (kway chap) lovers.
