招牌猪手 Pork Trotter @ Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai, Johor

I love pork trotters 猪手 whether it is braised, stewed, roasted, baked or fried like German style Schweinshaxe pork knuckles. So, when I heard about 淡杯老荣记 Eng Kee's signature fried pork trotter 招牌猪手, I couldn't wait to try it.

Eng Kee's stewed trotter was personally prepared by the lady boss and it had the essence of over thirty years of experience and expertise put into making it.

When an order is received the boss' son will deep fry the stewed pork trotter.

Then, fries the buns and makes the savoury gravy.

Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 signature pork trotter is ready.

Eng Kee's signature pork trotter tasted great!

Never mind that Eng Kee is located in an industrial area passed its prime and now littered with abandoned shops, untidy car repair workshops and store houses.

The golden brown pork trotter was crispy on the outside, yet it was also moist inside due to the little remaining fat and gelatinous tendons kept intact. The golden orange, savoury gravy had a nice balance of salty and sweet flavours with delicate tangy notes.

I love it that in Johor Bahru, two persons can enjoy a top grade fried pork trotter in savoury gravy for a grand total of RM20 J.

Besides their popular pork trotters 招牌猪手, Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记's other signature dishes is their KL Hokkien Mee.

Eng Kee 淡杯老荣记 is one place to impress your friends that you are in the know about Johor food - by finding delicious food even in the most unlikely corners of JB J.
